Diagonal Stitch Blanket (double knit)

Twisted stitches at designated intervals create the texture and diagonal pattern in this soft and luxurious double-knit throw. Blanket is knit in one piece on the 38″ Loom.

LOOM:  38” Knitting Loom using  3cm spacing. 70 double pegs.

YARN: Approx. 1450 yards of Super Bulky weight yarn. Sample was created with 5 skeins of Caron Chunky Cakes Self-Striping Yarn (100 % acrylic) in color Rice Pudding.

STITCHES: Stockinette, Rib, Swapped Stitches

NOTIONS: Knit hook, crochet hook, large sewing needle, row counter

GAUGE: 5 sts + 4 rows = approx. 2”

SIZE: 30” x  52”

INSTRUCTIONS

Set up loom for double knit, 3 cm spacing. Cast on 70 stitches and place anchor yarn.

Pattern Notes: To create this diagonal pattern, every 10th stitch is swapped with the next stitch. And on each following row, stitches are swapped on the proceeding stitches.

Row 1-4: Rib stitch

Row 5: (See photos) Swap stitches on pegs 5-6, 15-16, 25-26, 35-36, 45-46, 55-56, 65-66. Work row in Stockinette.

Swapping stitches on pegs 5 & 6:

1.Pick up the stitch from peg 5. Hold it.

2.Move the stitch from peg 6 to peg 5.

3.Place held stitch onto peg 6.

4.Repeat swapping on the other side of loom.

 

Row 6: Swap stitches on pegs 6-7, 16-17, 26-27, 36-37, 46-47, 56-57, 66-67. Work row in Stockinette.

Row 7: Swap stitch on pegs 7-8 17-18, 27-28, 37-38, 47-48, 57-58, 67-68. Work row in Stockinette.

Row 8: Swap stitch on pegs 8-9, 18-19, 28-29, 17-18, 27-28, 37-38, 47-48, 57-58, 67-68. Work row in Stockinette.

Row 9: Swap stitch on pegs 9-10, 19-20, 29-30, 39-40, 49-50, 59-60 (no swapping on pegs 1 or 70 in order to ensure a crisp border).  Work row in Stockinette.

Row 10: Swap Stitch on pegs 10-11, 20-21, 30-31, 40-41, 50-51, 60-61. Work row in Stockinette.

Row 11: Swap Stitch on pegs 11-12, 21-22, 31-32, 41-42, 51-52, 61-62.  Work row in Stockinette.

Row 12: Swap Stitch on pegs 2-3, 12-13, 22-23, 32-33, 42-43, 52-53, 62-63. Work row in Stockinette

Row 13: Swap Stitch on pegs 3-4, 13-14, 23-24, 33-34, 43-44, 53-54, 63-64. Work row in Stockinette

Row 14: Swap Stitch on pegs 4-5, 14-15, 24-25, 34-35, 44-45, 54-55, 64-65. Work row in Stockinette.

Repeat Rows 5-14 (10 rows), 8 times or until desired length has been reached.

Row 95-99: Rib stitch

Row 100: Stockinette stitch

FINISHING: With a crochet hook, bind off last row, and then bind off at the anchor yarn. Weave ends into the knitting.
