Celebration Socks

KNITTING LOOM:  His & Her Sock Loom, 56 peg sock loom. Video of Lace Stitch at end of pattern.

YARN:  Approx 350 yards of self-striping fingering weight yarn. Sample was worked with Knit Picks Stroll Bare Felici Sock Yarn and dyed by a local artist.

NOTIONS:  Tapestry needle, row counter, stitch markers (2), 2 size US1 double-pointed needle (used for Kitchener stitch the toes close).

GAUGE: 16 sts x 24 rows = 2” blocked.

SIZE: Shown in a women’s size 7. Note: using thicker yarn will provided a slightly larger sock. To knit the item for a smaller/larger size foot, work less/more rounds on the foot.

INSTRUCTIONS

Cuff & Leg

Cast on 56 sts, join to work in the round.

Place a stitch marker on any peg to mark the beginning of a round, this peg is now peg 1.

Rnd 1-12: *k2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.

Rnd 13: *yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.

Rnd 14: *k5, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.

Rnd 15: *k1, yo, cdd, yo, k1, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.

Rnd 16: *k5, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.

Rep Rnds 12-16: until Leg measures approximately 6 inches from cast on edge.  End on a Round 16.

Heel

 Move stitch marker to from peg 1 to peg 56. Peg 56 will mark the beginning of the new round.

Use the short-row heel method over the next 28 sts (see step by step instructions below).

Foot

 Next rnd: k28, *p1, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.

Next rnd: k28, *p1, k5, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.

Next rnd: k28, *p1, k1, yo, cdd, yo, k1, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.

Next rnd: k28, *p1, k5, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.

Rep last 4 rnds until sole measures approx. 7 inches from back of heel (or desired length).

Toe

Create the toe in the exact same manner as used for the heel. Refer to Short-row heel/toe instructions at the end of pattern for specific details.

FINISHING

Keeping all stitches from twisting, place the first 28 stitches onto a double-pointed needle. Place the remaining 28 stitches onto the second double-pointed needle.

Seam the stitches using the Kitchener Stitch. Weave in all ends. Block lightly.

Row 1: k27, w&t peg 28

Row 2: k26, w&t peg 1

Row 3: k25, w&t peg 27

Row 4: k24, w&t peg 2

Row 5: k23, w&t peg 26

Row 6: k22, w&t peg 3

Row 7: k21, w&t peg 25

Row 8: k20, w&t peg 4

Specific for heel: Continue to the foot instructions. On the first round, knit off the wraps together with the stitch (3 over 1) as the next round is worked.

Specific for toe: after finishing the short-rows, seam with the Kitchener stitch.
