LOOM: Flexee Loom Links Skinny, 84 pegs needed.
YARN: 200-250 yds. Lion Brand Ferris Wheel in Cotton Candy (1 skein) used in sample.
STITCHES: uknit and true knit stitch
GAUGE: 20 sts x 32 rows = 4″
SIZE: 18″ circumference with a 9 ” total length. Due to the lace pattern and the roving yarn, this hat is super stretchy and will stretch to fit up to 21 inches in circumference. Can be worn completely over the ears or slouchy.
Pattern Notes: If you tend to uknit tightly, gently pull the stitch away from the peg, leaving a gap. This allows for easier stitch movement on the lace rows. Another option is to leave quite a bit of slack in the yarn as you work each peg.
Use a true knit on the lace rows to make the k2tog and ssk easier to work.
K2tog: Knit two together
SSK: Slip, slip, knit
Yo: Lay working yarn across the front of the empty peg
Set up the Flexee Loom Skinny with 84 pegs. Connect both ends to work in the round.
Cast on using your preferred method. Use a stitch marker to mark beginning of round. I also recommend using stitch markers every 6 stitches to keep track of the lace pattern.
Ribbing: Work *uknit 2, purl 2* around. Work a total of 7 rows of ribbing. (approx one inch)
Begin the Wavy Lace Stitch (chart or step by step below). Repeat stitch, until hat measures approximately 8 inches in length or desired size. (Sample measured 8.25 inches before crown decreases.)
Wavy Lace Stitch Pattern:
Round 1 & 2: *p1, k5* around
Round 3: *k1, yo, ssk, p1, k2tog, yo* around
Round 4: *k3, p1, k2* around
Round 5 & 6: Repeat Round 4
Round 7: *p1, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk* around
Round 8: Repeat Round 1
Round 1: *k5, k2tog* repeat to end of round. Remove markers for lace as you come to them. Note: after you work that first k2tog, move the new stitch to the empty peg on the right. Then move the next 5 stitches as you work them to the next empty pegs to the right. As soon as you have 2 empty pegs (on the same link), remove this link, reconnect the loom and continue decreasing. You will continue this process for each decrease round. (See photos below) 72 stitches remaining.
Round 2: Knit all stitches.
Round 3: *K4, k2tog* around. 60 sts remaining.
Round 4: Repeat Round 2.
Round 5: *K3, k2tog*, repeat to end of round. 48 sts remaining.
Round 6: Repeat Round 2.
Round 7: *K2, k2tog* repeat to end of round. 36 sts remaining.
Round 8: Repeat Round 2.
Round 9: *K1, k2tog* repeat to end of round. 24 sts remaining.
Round 10: Repeat Round 2.
Round 11: k2tog to end of round. 12 sts remaining.
Wrap the yarn around the loom 2 or 3 times then cut yarn. Using yarn needle or loom hook, weave yarn through remaining stitches. Remove from loom then pull stitches tight.
Weave in ends.
