LOOM: Chunky Round Loom Set, or Flexee Loom Links Chunky, 40 links (80 pegs).
YARN: Approx 300 yards, acrylic blend bulky #6 weight. Sample was worked with Lion Brand WoolEase Thick & Quick (6oz/170g; 106yd/97m)
NOTIONS: Knitting tool, crochet hook, and tapestry needle, and stitch markers.
SIZE: Fits an adult.
Set stitch markers on ‘every other’ 2 pegs. Mark the beginning peg with a different color marker from other marked pegs. Create a slipknot and place on beginning peg.
Cast on your stitches. Bring the yarn around the back of the next peg and wrap the peg (ewrap). Continue ewrapping all pegs.
Once all pegs are wrapped, your stitches are cast on.
Round 1: Knit 2 pegs, purl 2 pegs and continue process around loom. The marked pegs are to be knit, and the NON-marked pegs are to be purled.
To create the knit stitch, bring working yarn to the top of the first peg, then take knit hook up through bottom loop, and grab working yarn and pull through loop.
Then pull up, and take stitch off of the peg; bring newly formed stitch and place on peg. Repeat this knit stitch on peg 2.
The purl stitch is the opposite of the knit stitch. To begin, wrap the yarn below the loop on the peg. Take knit hook through the top loom and grab working yarn, and pull through loop. The with fingers, lift off of the peg and replace with newly formed stitch. Repeat purl stitch on next peg, peg 4.
Repeat round 1, for a total of 8 rounds.
Round 9: Knit stitch all pegs around loom.
Repeat round 9, until hat is 7.5” from starting edge.
Bind off stitches with ‘Modified Gather Bind Off’
Work 3 rounds as follows: *k2, p2; rep from * to end of round.
Cut a piece of yarn, about 20” in length. Thread tapestry needle with yarn tail.
Remove the first 2 stitches, skip two stitches; repeat this all around the loom.
Cut a second piece of yarn, about 20” in length. Thread tapestry needle with this yarn. Remove remaining stitches. Once all stitches are removed, carefully take knit off the loom and draw in yarn and cinch closed.
Find the original yarn tail ends. Gently cinch it close.
Find the second yarn tail ends. Gently cinch it close.
Take needle through the top of hat to the inside of hat. Weave needle through a few stitches. Finish by weaving in ends.
