LOOM: Baby-Knit Looms
YARN: Approx 160 yds of worsted weight merino wool yarn. Red Heart Chic yarn, 1 skein (less than 1 skein used) in Suite used in sample.
NOTIONS: tapestry needle, row counter (optional), stitch markers (4).
GAUGE: 11 sts and 16 rows = 2”
INSTRUCTIONS
Cast on 56 sts, prepare to work in the round.
Rnd 1-8: *k2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 9: k2, p1, ew1, p1, k2, p1, ew1, p1, k2, p to end.
Rnd 10: TW, p1, ew1, p1, TW, p1, ew1, p1, TW, k to end.
Rnd 11: k2, p1, ew1, p1, k2, p1, ew1, p1, k2, p to end.
Rnd 12: k2, p1, ew1, p1, k2, p1, ew1, p1, k2, k to end.
Rep Rnds 9-12: until hat measures approximately 5.5 inches from cast on edge.
Next 2 rnds: *k2, p2; rep from * to end.
Remove the item with Modified Gather Bind Off
Modified Gather Bind Off Instructions
Cut 2 pieces of yarn that are approximately 24 inches long.
Thread tapestry needle with one of the pieces of yarn. Remove all the purl stitches onto the piece of yarn.
Thread the second piece of yarn and remove all the knit stitches from the loom.
Locate the first piece of yarn and cinch the purl stitches tightly close.
Locate the second piece of scrap yarn and cinch it all the knit stitches.
Tightly weave all tail ends to the wrong side of the hat.

Rnd 1-8: *k2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 9-13: k to end of rnd.
Heel—follow Heel Instructions
Sole and Instep
Next 14 rnds: k to end of rnd.
Toe—follow same instructions as for Heel
Bind off with Kitchener Stitch.

German Short-Row Instructions (24-peg loom—heel over 12 pegs).
How-to short row: knit the peg, bring the working yarn from the back to the front of the peg, gently tug on the yarn and bring it to the adjacent peg to knit.
Row 1: Knit from peg 1 to peg 12. Short-row on peg 12.
Row 2: Knit from peg 11 to peg 1. Short-row on peg 1.
Row 3: Knit from peg 2 to peg 11. Short-row on peg 11.
Row 4: Knit from peg 10 to peg 2. Short-row on peg 2.
Row 5: Knit from peg 3 to peg 10. Short-row on peg 10.
Row 6: Knit from peg 9 to peg 3. Short-row on peg 3.
Row 7: Knit from peg 4 to peg 9. Short-row on peg 9.
Row 8: Knit from peg 9 to peg 4. Short-row on peg 4.

You will have the short-row on pegs 13 and 24. When working this round on the next round, treat the stitches as normal.
